You have questions?
The aim is never to hurt a client! However it is true that some of the techniques used can cause discomfort. Techniques such as frictioning and trigger pointing can be painful. However as we go through the massage there will be constant communication and if there is a technique/area/pressure that you do not like, then you tell me and we change our approach. A sports massage will not be like a Spa massage, but it does not necessarily need to be painful.
With regards to age then yes, I treat all adults. With regards to sporting ability, you do not need to be an elite athlete to have a sports massage or benefit from it, they are useful for anyone suffering with aches and pains, elite athlete or not.
There are certain conditions that are contraindicated for massage, but these will be discussed prior to treatment.
As with all my treatments and sessions, you do what you feel comfortable with. Sports massage is very personal. Peoples bodies react differently. Depending on the condition, some people feel benefit straight away, some need multiple sessions. It is very difficult to say how many sessions a person may need without knowing the condition. Generally exercises or stretching will also be prescribed, so it can depend if the homework is also completed!
